This 9k yellow gold watch chain was originally used to attach a pocket watch to a waistcoat. The chain would prevent theft or loss, and was visible when worn, making it a little fashion accessory too.

This particular example has a so-called Albert-link chain, with swivel hooks on each end. Halfway down the chain hangs a toggle and two watch fobs, one set with a hexagonal-cut amethyst, and the other with a emerald-cut yellow topaz. It could be worn as a bracelet but could also be combined with a different chain or chain extender and worn as a necklace.
